Favourite wine

One of my favourite grapes is the Carmenere varietal from Chile. The wine has a deep red color and a fruity aroma that always reminds me of both its complex history and recent rebirth.

I love the Carmenere story. Originally from Bordeaux, the varietal was destroyed by a plague in 1867 and was presumed virtually extinct until 1994 when a professor from the Montpellier School of Oenology confirmed that it had been grown in Chile for the last 120+ years under the disguise of a Merlot.
