Julian Pinder, Creative Director

Julian Pinder brings creative vision to every project he touches. A filmmaker, creative thinker and former restaurateur, Julian gained a profound interest in the ancient pleasures of wine after living for some time in France. His vision for Vintage One begins and ends with a simple concept: to espouse the creative, progressive spirit of the city along with the simple beauty and tradition of the vineyard.

Julian founded a small film production company, Deliberate Films, a number of years ago. His most recent film, LAND, a feature documentary, played to sold out audiences at the celebrated HotDocs Int’l film festival, as well as being released theatrically and on television across Canada, the United States and Europe through KinoSmith and TVO. It has played many film festivals, and was nominated for the Award for Social Justice in Documentary Filmmaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

In addition to directing and producing films, Julian Pinder, along with his partner Alejandra De Miguel, began the acclaimed restaurant and live jazz venue in Toronto, Olivia’s At Fifty Three. The restaurant boasted the first and only micro-winery in Canada, garnering rave reviews and the support of wine writers.

Julian is currently directing a new feature documentary, Trouble in the Peace, developing a script for the feature drama, as well as shooting a wine-travel show focusing on Alejandra and her love of meeting other winemakers from far-off place around the world.

Favourite wine

Vintage One’s spicy, sexy, aromatic Carmenere, enjoyed with just about anything, with the exception of breakfast.
