Estates

These wines are produced with high quality grapes from countries and regions our winemakers determine each harvest. They are single-vineyard varietals from grapes harvested specifically for V1 from established vineyards with a long-running commitment to quality.

The red wines in our Estates category include a period of oak barrel aging, determined by our winemakers according to each varietal and vintage. Estates wines are best when aged slightly, and only get better with time as they develop more complex and dynamic characteristics.

Nero D’Avola$261/18 litres/24 bottlesThe most important red wine grape in Sicily and one of Italy’s most important indigenous varietals. Nero d’Avola is often treated like Syrah making mostly big red wines with ageing potential. It can also be made into a lighter style for drinking young.
Sangiovese$279/18 litres/24 bottlesSangiovese grapes produce fruity, medium body wines with a moderate to high natural acidity. They can range from elegant and firm to very robust and assertive. The finish is usually on the bitter side. Young Sangiovese wines are fruity and spicy, while the mature wines acquire an oak or tarry flavor.
Carmenere$279/18 litres/24 bottlesCarmenere had become the “forgotten grape” in Chile for more than 100 years. It was first imported to Chile from Bordeaux in the early 1850’s, and it wasn’t until the early 90’s that a professor discovered that the Chilean Carmenere had been misidentified as Merlot for over a century. Chile’s climate is ideal for the Carmenere grape and it flourished there.
Syrah$279/18 litres/24 bottlesSyrah is the only grape to make the famous Rhone wines of Cote Rotie and Hermitage, and also forms the backbone of most Rhone blends including Chateauneuf de Pape. The origins of this grape were long debated but through combined research, DNA profiling proved Syrah to be indigenous to France. While more than half of the worlds Syrah acreage is planted in France, it is grown with great success in Australia, South Africa, California and Chile.
Malbec$234/18 litres/24 bottlesOne of the traditional Bordeaux varietals, Malbec has characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It can bring ample tannin, deep color and a particular plum-like flavor. Malbec comes to its own in Argentina, where it is the major red varietal planted. Argentine Malbecs are usually softer, with lusher structure, more like New World Merlot, and will age fairly well.
Petit Verdot$234/18 litres/24 bottlesPetit verdot is a red wine grape traditionally grown in France’s Bordeaux valley. The name petit verdot means “little green,” a reference to the difficulties of growing petit verdot grapes in the Bordeaux region. Winegrowers in California and Australia, and Argentina however, have had great success growing petit verdot in their regions’ longer growing seasons.
Tannat Organic $252/18 litres/24 bottlesTannat is historically grown in South West France, and is now one of the most prominent grapes in Uruguay, but is also grown in Argentina with great success. Exceptional levels of polyphenols are found in Tannat. The reason for the high concentration of these properties in Tannat wines are that the Tannat grape contains 5 pips (seeds), while all of the other fine wine grapes normally contain just 2 or 3, thus the source of the high concentrations of polyphenols, procyanidins, flavenoids and resveratrol, which are the four primary antioxidant components found in all wines.
Cabernet Franc Organic$252/18 litres/24 bottlesCabernet franc is a delightful plum colored red wine often distinguished as being “lighter” (in both color and tannins) and “fruiter” than its sauvignon cousin. The specific aromas present in cabernet franc are influenced both by the exact region and production style. Cabernet franc is used in creating ice wine in Canada. Ice wine is a unique dessert wine, highly concentrated and generally quite expensive to produce.
Chardonnay$190/18 litres/24 bottlesThe Chardonnay grape is a delicate, sensitive, diminutive grape. It’s expensive to produce, vulnerable to temperature variations and a veritable chameleon of flavors. It’s a fairy princess with gossamer wings—hard to pin down but easy to recognize, distinctive and special. Chardonnay grapes hail from the Burgundy area of France where their vines are the most numerous of all the varieties planted. They’re the only grape permitted in the Chablis region and the Chardonnay grape is also the major varietal used in making Champagne.
Pinot Grigio$190/18 litres/24 bottlesPinot grigio is the Italian name for Pinot gris, a French grape. Although it yields a fruity, dry white wine, Pinot gris is actually a red grape, with skins ranging in color from bluish gray to brownish pink. It is an “early to market” wine, meaning that it can usually be bottled and sold within four to 12 weeks after fermentation.
